The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) has launched a new LGBTQIA+ network. The network aims to make equality and inclusion for those that identify as LGBTQIA+ a reality in the sport of sailing, reaching not just the RYA membership, but also stretching across to RYA affiliates and the wider boating community.

RYA says the group is open to anyone who identifies as part of the LGBTQIA+ community, or anybody who is an ally, who is interested in the sport and actively supports the RYA’s ambition for a diverse and welcoming culture.

The news comes as organisations across the UK mark the country’s annual LGBT+ History Month throughout February.

Welcome to the Sailing & Cruising Association (referred to as the "S&CA"), a community established over four decades ago in the UK. Our primary goal is to create a secure and inclusive environment where boating enthusiasts can freely express their love for sailing, irrespective of their gender or sexual orientation. The S&CA has evolved into a vibrant sailing community, boasting a membership of approximately 400 individuals. Over time, our community has become increasingly diverse, encompassing people from various backgrounds, spanning different age groups. We warmly welcome members of all genders, including men, women, trans individuals, and those who identify as non-binary. Additionally, our community represents a spectrum of sexual orientations, including gay, straight, and bisexual individuals. We are committed to fostering inclusivity within our club and firmly stand against discrimination on any grounds, be it race, gender, or disability.
