    EVENT SAFETY AND ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION

We are very much a social club, but participants must please be mindful of the inherent dangers of alcohol consumption and proximity to water.  There have been incidents in past events of participants consuming excessive alcohol and falling from pontoons into the water.  Each of these events could, but for luck, have resulted in tragic consequences.  Please be mindful of your alcohol consumption on club events, and take particular care to ensure that you can get yourself safely back on board at the end of a social evening.  We need to look after each other, so if you notice that another participant is showing effects of intoxication, please make other members of their crew aware, and ensure that they are not returning to the boats or pontoons alone.

Please also be aware of the additional risks when using dinghies / tenders, which has also resulted in event participants being unintentionally in the water.

Our monthly London Social has been an important part of S&CA life for decades.  With many of our members living in and around London, this has been a key forum for meeting skippers and crew, making plans, and sharing sailing stories. It's a great way for prospective members to get a feel for the Club and for new members to get to know people before setting sail.  You’re free to come along to this event but it helps us if you book so we know you’re coming.

For early birds, a meal at 17:45 at Pizza Express, 450 Strand, London, WC2R 0TG is organised as a separate event. If you wish to attend the Pizza Express meal, please book using the separate event booking.

If you can’t make the pizza, the Landlord is more than happy for you to bring food or even order a pizza for delivery.

For those who live further afield, if the occasional journey into London isn't practical, keep an eye out for local social events (e.g. Brighton and Bristol). If you're keen to attend or help organise a local social elsewhere in the country, please contact:  social@gaysailing.org.uk

Guy is looking to organise a personal charter to the Stockholm Archipelago and is looking for 4 or 6 people to join him and John on a boat with 3 or 4 cabins.  This could be expanded to other boats should sufficient interest be shown.  Costs vary a lot and 12knots https://12knots.com have some boats on sale at the moment, with this as an example:

    https://12knots.com/en/yacht-charter/sun-odyssey-439/karma-nau10563476/

Travel to Stockholm would be the starting point for the charter, perhaps combining it with a few days in Stockholm as it is a fascinating city but this would be up to individuals to plan.  Charter costs for older boats are from £400 per person to around £650 for newer ones.  Food and travel would be extra.

    • The Solent

Join us for our annual gala event 'The Treasure Hunt'. Provisional berthing reservations have been made at a marina on the Solent and at a secret Yacht Club (or similarly suitable venue).

Knight of the realm of Homovia, Sir Elton Johnne needs your help!

Participants, joining by sea or land, can register and attend all or parts of the event.

    THE PLAN

    Friday Evening 4th July

A social evening for new and old (and young and old) crews on board.

    Saturday 5th July

The Main Event! (details subject to amendment)

For your delight, the S&CA 2025 Treasure Hunt mis-management Committee has planned the following:

Sir Elton Johnnie is in a bad mood!  He can’t find the f@#!ng Yacht Club! His local baker has stopped making his favourite patisserie, and his b$#*!@d lyricist has f#$£ed off to work with Will The Younger!

Only the S&CA can improve the mood of our National Treasure of Homovia, legendary friend of Dorothy (that’s a hint for alternative costumes), and famously nicest man in music.

Crews will follow the clues to locate the Yacht Club (or similarly suitable location), use their passages to create the sweet indulgence Sir Elton Johnnie is craving, and also to write him a new song to the tune of one of his greatest hits.

Somewhere in the Solent area our crews will gather for a catered evening meal, where they will present their puddings, and dazzle Sir Elton Johnnie with their lyrics.  Elton Johnnie -themed Karaoke will follow, with uninspiring prizes, dancing and merriment.

The mis-management committee will provide a sequence of navigational clues to the location of event.

Inflated tenders (or skilled hookers) will be required to retrieve the final clue.

Crews will need to bring their own supplies to prepare their extravagant dessert on board (shop bought or home prepared entries will be disqualified).

Crews are free to compose their lyrics before or during the event.

Boat keys for each vessel to be brought to the Saturday night event venue for a 1970's style additional prize draw.

    Sunday 6th July

Social breakfast and head for home ports

    Notes for Skippers

Berthing for registered vessels will be paid for in advance by the club.  Registered skippers will be required to reimburse the club accordingly.

Your host will be Andrew Palmer

    Any questions, please email treasurer@gaysailing.org.uk

Please use the links below for safety advice from the RYA and RNLI:

    https://www.rya.org.uk/knowledge/safety

    CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS

The club will endeavour to provide full refunds for event charges when cancellations are made by you through the Website and made in good time. Normally, a week before the event is due to take place will be sufficient.

If the club has made third party bookings, paid deposits or made other commitments, it may be that only a partial refund or no refund is offered.

Where a refund is requested due to dissatisfaction with third party goods or services, a refund will only be offered if such refund is also made to the club by the third party.

In July 1980, the Club had its first meeting at The Dickens Inn and for July only, we hold Founders' Drinks at The Dickens Inn, St Katherine Docks, Marble Quay, St Katharine's Way, London E1W 1UH

Our monthly London Social has been an important part of S&CA life for decades.  With many of our members living in and around London, this has been a key forum for meeting skippers and crew, making plans, and sharing sailing stories. We will find an area in the bar or outside, depending on how busy it is.  Please look around for us, we will be there!

We do not have an organised Pizza Express meal before Founders' Drinks but this does resume in August.

We've had an email from Thierry Deteix, the Sailing coordinator for EuroGames Lyon 2025, advising the Club that the next EuroGames will be in Lyon, France, from the 23th to the 26th of July.  The sailing will be held 24th to 25th July at the Grand-Large Reservoir https://www.meyzieu.fr/sortir/sport/le-grand-large and is being organised by our French friends at Voile et Croisière en Liberté https://vcl.fr/

The sailing consists of two events https://lyon2025.com/en/sports/sailing/

    • Racing on Hobie Cat 15s with spinnakers with a crew of two
    • Recreational sailing on First 7s with a crew of four

The Rowing and Dragon Boat tournaments will be at the same venue and a lot of people and fun is expected.

To attend to EuroGames Lyon 2025 will be a perfect opportunity to rebuild the LGBT Sailing community and to train before GayGames Valencia 2026
and EuroGames Cardiff 2027. The EuroGames fees are more affordable than GayGames fees.

All sports included, Lyon 2025 just reached the 4000 registrations mark, including 530 from UK, the second country after France. It would be a pity if there were only few sailors in the large British delegation.

If you're interested, please put your name down and let's see if we can get the Club represented at the EuroGames.  If there's sufficient interest, we can get a group together and arrange a meeting and get it coordinated amongst the attendees.  The committee can help with this but it would be great if someone of those wishing to take part would take
    on this role.

Jonathan is looking to organise a charter from Šibenik, Croatia, September 20th to 27th when the summer season has finished but the temperatures and sailing prospects are still good.

The hire base would be Mandalina Marina, Šibenik as it is less than an hour from either Zadar or Split Airports. It gives easy access to Skradin for the Kirka National Park, the wild and remote Kornatii National Park, or the isles of Brac and Solta further South. The old town of Šibenik is also attractive.

The charter would be with NCP Charter https://www.ncp-charter.com where Jonathan worked in 2024 and found them to be extremely helpful, professional and supportive. They will organise airport transfers if required.

Charter costs are currently quoted in the region of 1,500 - £1,200 per week for a Dufour 375.  Split between a crew of four this gives a per head price of about £300.  Additional costs are full yacht indemnity Insurance, marina fees,  provisions and personal expenditure.
