South Coast - Coronation Bank Holiday

  • 2 Jun 2022
  • 5 Jun 2022
  • Island Harbour

Registration

The Spring Bank Holiday has been moved, and now incorporates the Platinum Jubilee.  We are taking the opportunity of the extra long bank holiday period to have a more leisurely extended visit to Southampton followed by a night at anchor in the Western Solent.

We have a provisional berthing reservation at Southampton Ocean Quay.  They will not be taking other visitors, but if we have high attendance, availability will be subject to some of their permanent berth holders being away.  Overspill will be for individual skippers to book into Shamrock Quay.

Skippers, please register as early as possible in order to assist with the berthing availability planning.  Ocean Quay availability will be managed in order of registration date.

THE PLAN

Details are still in development, look out for updates in the event as we move into the new year and firm up the itinerary.  Due to the anchoring aspect the weather may influence our plans.

Thursday 2nd June

Make our way to Southampton Ocean Quay*.

Pontoon drinks of Gin and Dubonnet in the evening with options of self catering on board or individual restaurant bookings.

Friday 3rd June

A 'Right Royal Picnic' on Southampton Common,  and possibility of joining evening Jubilee celebrations in town.

We must all eat like Queens, so each crew will prepare a picnic dish or two from a selection of Her Majesty's favourites.  Each dish should comprise small individual portions, made from the finest ingredients, enough for each dish to serve about 80% of the attendees.  Our picnic lunch will be washed down with more Gin & Dubonnet and Champagne.

Once we have a good idea of numbers, the organiser will nominate dishes from the options below for each crew to prepare:

Lunch Dishes

Marmite mushrooms

Scotch Eggs

Gleneagles Pate with Toast

Dover Sole with Spinach & Courgettes

Grilled Chicken with Salad

Gaelic Steak, whiskey cream sauce (well done)

Ma'amburgers - Hamburgers with Cranberry Sauce (no bun)

Sandwiches - (well buttered, crustless, not in squares or fingers!)

Tuna Mayonnaise with Cucumber

Egg Mayonnaise with Mustard Cress

Beef with Horseradish

Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese (with pepper and lemon juice)

Saturday 4th June

Depending on the conditions, the first plan is to anchor in the stunning Alum Bay for an afternoon walk, and an evening BBQ on the beach.  A secondary option will be anchoring outside of Keyhaven, where we can also get to the beach by dinghy.

Sunday 5th June

Head for home ports

COVID NOTE

The Committee intends that club events will go ahead wherever possible in 2022, and the planned events are not intended to be cancelled unless they are clearly prohibited by government restrictions.

All events will be run as 'Cruise in Company'.  All participants must comply with and be individually responsible for relevant guidance or regulations such as socially distancing,  maximum group sizes and household mixing during any interaction of crew groups.

It will be the responsibility of individual skippers to comply with relevant guidance or regulations in respect of crewing arrangements and the safety of their crews.  This includes, but is not limited to - hygiene precautions, social distancing, group sizes and mixing of households on board.

Due to the uncertainty over Covid risks and restrictions at the time of the event, activities and catered dining arrangements (Plan A) are subject to change or cancellation.  Crews will need to be prepared for a Plan B of switching to an open air BBQ in individual crew groups or catering on board for example.

All attendees must be registered for the event for track and trace purposes.

ANYONE EXPERIENCING COVID SYMPTOMS MUST NOT ATTEND
