South Coast - End of Season Race, Rally and Dinner incorporating the Club's Annual Awards

  • 29 Oct 2021
  • 31 Oct 2021
  • Gosport and Portsmouth

Registration

Following the success of the LUS 2019 at the Royal Naval Club and Royal Albert Yacht Club in Portsmouth, it is also the venue for the 2021 South Coast EoS Dinner.  Since so many members are berthed in Portsmouth Harbour, we will have a  race in the Solent to make sure that everyone gets out on the water.

Since there will be no Laying up Supper this year, this event will also incorporate the Club's Annual Awards Ceremony.

This event will be ideal for new and novice sailors to join Portsmouth based skippers for the day sail.  Also for land based participants who may be able to find berths on board for the Saturday night.

Note - Unfortunately Haslar are unable to accommodate us and Premiere cannot take a rally booking.  Premiere remains the venue to gather in the evenings due to a critical mass of vessels already berthed there.  Skippers traveling from further afield will need to make their own visitor reservations (Gosport Premiere, Haslar, Royal Clarence,  Gun Wharf)

THE PLAN

Friday 29th October

We plan to have a gathering in Gosport on the Friday night possibly at the Premiere Marina or a nearby pub / restaurant.  Details to be communicated nearer to the time.

Saturday 30th October

Home ports to Gosport Premiere Marina or day-sail at 10am from Portsmouth Harbour.

Gathering at Gosport Premiere marina by late afternoon we will have drinks onboard before taking the ferry to Portsmouth together and walking to the yacht club for 19:00 and dinner at 19:30.

Despite the apparent anomalies of sail and power participants, and completely different courses,  a state of the art, and flawlessly fair S&CA handicap system has been developed to calculate the race winners and losers!

Whether making their way to Portsmouth Harbour from home ports, or participating in the day sail, skippers will record various details about their passage.  Race competition entries will be judged and prizes awarded at the evening dinner.

The evening dinner at the Royal Naval Club and Royal Albert Yacht Club is £40 for a three course set menu, payable on registration.

Note that the Dress Code is 'smart casual'.  Jackets and ties are preferred, but not required. Denim is not permitted.

Participants will pay for their own drinks at the bar which will take last orders at 10:45.

COVID NOTE

The Committee intends that club events will go ahead wherever possible in 2021, and the planned events are not intended to be cancelled unless they are clearly prohibited by government restrictions.

All events will be run as 'Cruise in Company'.  All participants must comply with and be individually responsible for relevant guidance or regulations such as socially distancing,  maximum group sizes and household mixing during any interaction of crew groups.

It will be the responsibility of individual skippers to comply with relevant guidance or regulations in respect of crewing arrangements and the safety of their crews.  This includes, but is not limited to - hygiene precautions, social distancing, group sizes and mixing of households on board.

Due to the uncertainty over Covid risks and restrictions at the time of the event, activities and catered dining arrangements (Plan A) are subject to change or cancellation.  Crews will need to be prepared for a Plan B of switching to an open air BBQ in individual crew groups or catering on board for example.

All attendees must be registered for the event for track and trace purposes.

ANYONE EXPERIENCING COVID SYMPTOMS MUST NOT ATTEND

GETTING HELP TO JOIN US

Crew seeking berths are initially advised to visit the club Facebook ‘Crew Match’ page. If you are unsuccessful or not in the Facebook group, you are welcome to contact the event host.

Land based participants are as always welcome to join, and may wish to take advantage of one of the local hotels or B&B's in the area.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
1. Register your attendance via the S&CA website by Friday 22nd October (note that this will not be extended for this event since final numbers, menu choices and payment must be made to the venue)

2. Visit the Facebook CrewMatch page for all crewing opportunities

3. Upon approach, skippers will be required to contact the harbour / marina by VHF for specific berthing instructions. (please state you are part of the S&CA / Sailing & Cruising Association Rally)

4. You can bring along friends, but remember to ‘add guest’ at the point of your registration. Guests can only be added at the time of registration.  If you later want to add a guest and the event did not require payment please cancel your registration and re-register adding your guest.  If your registration did require payment please contact the event host.
