This year, the East Coast May Bank Holiday will be cruising the Orwell and Walton Backwaters.
The itinerary:
Sat 26th May - A good long day cruise up the east coast to the River Orwell making the most of the day long ebbing tide (low water at Walton on the Naze is 1629) then up the Orwell to moor at the Woolverstone Marina.
An evening gathering with BBQ meal either at the Marina or at the adjacent Royal Harwich Sailing Club (Bar available at both locations).
Sun 27th May - Wake up early to the call of curlews and the picturesque Orwell valley. After an earlyish breakfast, head off for a leisurely sail down the Orwell and out the mouth as the tide rises to enter the Walton Backwaters just before high water at 1112. Sail up the Twizzle past the islands made famous in Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons, with the occasional sighting of seals basking on the marshes to our overnight mooring at Titchmarsh Marina.
There will be time to relax in the afternoon followed by an evening meal together at the Titchmarsh Marina restaurant.
