IOW  Pride Saturday 21st July
Britain now holds the record for having the most Pride events in Europe. The number of Pride events being planned here for 2018 is expected to reach over 120.

The Isle of Wight won as hosts for the second ‘UK Pride’ event. The Island beat five other bids to host the festival, which celebrates the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. The team from ‘UK Pride commented that the IOW’s bid was outstanding, showing the power of Pride and the way it can empower people and change lives.

Amongst the unique features to secure the win, is the fact that it is the only Pride in the UK to take place on a beach! Organisers expect up to 80,000 people to attend this event.

This year has attracted some fabulous stage acts

10:30hrs Members to meet at the designated S&CA meeting point
11:00hrs - 12:00hrs The Pride Parade
12:00hrs - 21:00hrs Pride Beach Party
22:00hrs - 02:00hrs Pride After Party (Tickets Required)
There will be a huge range of council approved eateries on site throughout the day
Ryde is packed with and well known for its cafes and bars.

Your host will be Elaine Spear. Elaine is local, and has attended Ryde Pride previously, and is therefore very knowledgeable with the area and the event’s logistics. She will meet you at the designated S&CA meeting point (at the end of Ryde pier, located to the left of Ryde bus station), to pass on any tips and information she feels you will benefit from. You will then be free to enjoy the day at your own leisure as you feel is best for you.

It is suggested if you are a skipper sailing across, because Ryde is too shallow, you arrange your individual berthing at one of the marinas in Cowes. The preferred option is East Cowes, as it is closest to the bus stop, which would get you to Ryde. Plus if all members could start from the same point, it would prove easier and more fun would be had.

Members could also choose to sail via ‘Wightlink catamaran’ which operates regularly between Portsmouth Harbour railway station and Ryde pier. There are several other sea routes transporting Pride lovers from the mainland across to the Isle of Wight.
