What does it involve?

Last year the Club charter went to Split in Croatia. We had intended to go back to Dubrovnik then but because of logistics and the crisis in Syria very few boats were available, hence what would appear to be an early (January 2017) notification from me of the 2017 Event. The pool of boats in the south of Croatia (Dubrovnik) is far smaller than what is available in the marinas situated further north.

Dubrovnik is near the airport of the same name, transfers are available by coach (shuttle transfer for around £8 pp) or private taxi (for around £16 pp). Dubrovnik is a stunning Croatian city on the Adriatic sea; walk through the marble streets where whitewashed buildings with bright orange roofs dominate this mediaeval treasure. It has now been completely restored after 80% was destroyed in the past conflicts. Walk the towering walls that run 6500ft all around the city, and visit the Renaissance squares of marble, with many magnificent views.

Itinerary:
The planned itinerary would take in the coast line and the islands of Mijet, Korcula and possibly Hvar. I will look at this in more detail with the skippers joining the charter. Initial plans are to head for Hvar town for the middle weekend, which could include a crew change as there are good ferry links to Hvar Island out of Dubrovnik. Either way it a a beautiful sailing area, with amazing scenery and many places of interest to visit, or wild anchorages to spend idyllic evenings.

Suggested Boat Provider:
I have secured a boat through Late Sail Ltd www.latesail.com  They will not agree a Club discount, but their website is very good and already has large discounts between 14% and 19% on most boats. I was able to get a further small percentage off, and the outboard at half price, but just ask. Say that you are joining the club event under my name. (I booked with Lynn Ferrell). They still (January 2017) have a number of boats available between 37 ft and 45 ft and at good prices. They are considerably cheaper then other providers. If possible contact Late Sail direct:  01227 479900.

Please note there are chargeable extras, to include outboard, transit log (end cleaning inc) deposits or damage wavier, insurance, towels, WiFi and local tourist tax.

What to do next:
Skippers with crew organised: contact Late Sail or your chosen provider. Once you have booked please drop me a line at charters@gaysailing.org.uk

Crew without a boat: if you attend the London socials, you may already have made contact with some skippers who may have spaces, otherwise please contact me at charters@gaysailing.org.uk with brief details of your experience and any Club sailing you may have done. I will look at putting you in contact with an agreeable skipper to join the charter.

Skippers without sufficient crew, should contact me with available berths on their boats at charters@gaysailing.org.uk

Happy Sailing
